22/06/2010 New chemical analysis system
Allard-Europe N.V. has extended its chemical analysis capability with the purchase of an Eltra ONH-2000 and CS-800 system. They will supplement the Spectrolab optical emission spectrometer (OES). The new systems will give Allard-Europe the capability of more accurate analysis of C, S, N, O and H. This is needed to comply with ever growing quality demands on high strength structural steel and a growing demand for stainless steel.
Unlike OES, who’s working principle is based on creating a plasma with an electric arc, the ONH-2000 and CS-800 measurements are based on burning a sample in a crucible and analyzing the resulting gasses by IR or thermal conductivity. The samples therefore don’t need to conduct electricity. This means that raw materials can be analyzed , resulting in better control of the melt.
